The first reveal! One Time In Space store page is now up on Steam! It’s a long time coming and the game is ready to be shown to the world! But of course not playable yet. So much more work needs to be done before it can get into your hands. Progress is being made every day towards that goal!

What is One Time In Space?

A 2D top-down sandbox RPG with selling points such as survival, crafting, space exploration, resource management, base-building- and I’ll cut myself off there before it goes into overpromising territory. Surviving will be harsh and unforgiving. One big feature One Time In Space offers is that you can build, customize and strategize your space ship in any way you can think of to ensure your own survival. You can choose to build your ship to be a light-weight, fast-moving ship for the purpose of exploring new things or you can build a grand space station focused on automated machines specialized in crafting materials into other machines or useful items to empower your character. Your choice!

When can I play it?

Currently work is focused on getting basic features out the door for a coherent playable demo. Expect the demo in the upcoming months. Once everything is finished the demo will be in your hands as soon as possible. As for the full version of the game in Early Access, a very rough estimate is late 2021/early 2022 but if all the planned features are implemented sooner, that means a sooner release date. No solid day can be given as I guarantee it will be missed. Once the full version has been released, the demo version of the game will be taken down. Think of the demo version as EARLY Early Access. The game will be in Early Access for roughly a year. Depending on player feedback it could be longer if more features are added.

What state is the game currently in?

A very solid foundation has been laid out for the future of the game that I’m sure this foundation will be relied upon many updates down the road. The primary focus is making the game a playable demo with most basic selling point features implemented with a simple goal for the end of the demo. The purpose of the demo would be to show off basic ship functionality, interaction and navigation as a preview to the full game. Many of the basic features have been explored and full implementation is a straight and narrow path to release. Besides functionality, the art direction has been locked in and many sprites already have their first versions that you can preview in the Media section of this website. As for sound effects and music, a lot of them have yet to be locked down and will be explored more as we approach demo release.

Why is the game called ‘One Time In Space’?

The name is meant to represent the randomness that you will encounter and that one fun game-changing moment that you experience. As you explore, you will find good things and bad things. You will find things that change the game completely and you may have to change your strategy to accommodate that. But above all, I hope the moments are memorable.

What can I expect between now and the release of the demo?

Check back here at this blog and expect regular blog posts on progress of the game, roadmaps and information on release schedule. Also look for feature spotlight posts detailing specifics of gameplay and its possibilities within the game world. GIFs included.

I have a suggestion, request, feedback, complaint, inquiry, and all-in-one statement. Where does it go?
